Running
In an ideal runner’s world, every step of every mile would be 100 percent pain-free. You would have no aches or pains, no twinges and no soreness from yesterday’s workout.
The reality is that most runners constantly deal with a disturbance a painful foot, pulling hamstring or aching calf. While these nagging issues often aren’t serious enough to require a time-out, they are annoying and often don’t let you enjoy your run.
Physiotherapy2fit can help you to achieve a “niggle” free run. The longer you leave a niggle the more likely it is to develop into something that impacts on your training schedule which ultimately will effect the result of the event you are training for.
Our Specialist Physiotherapists are trained to treat acute sporting injuries. All of our Physiotherapists have undertaken specialist training with The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute and are able to provide extensive knowledge with regard to injury prevention and core stability training. You will become more aware of your weaknesses, instabilities and muscle imbalances and your performance will be enhanced. With our experienced team we are able to help you improve your PB.
As running puts excessive strain on your joints and muscles this can lead to injuries that need treating. Our physiotherapists have a long history working within sports including the London 2012 Olympics but we also work with local running clubs treating sprinters and distance runners.
All of Physiotherapy2fit’s physiotherapists will work with you in order to achieve:
- Injury prevention
- Performance enhancement with core stability and pilates training.
- Injury rehabilitation
- Liaison with other members of the medical team as required. For example, if we feel you need an xray or MRI scan.
Typically Runners suffer with:
- Runners knee (Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome)
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Hamstring Issues
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Shin Splints
- Iliotibial Band Syndrome
- Stress Fractures
- Low Back Pain
- Sciatica
- Calf Strain
The problems are generally caused by poor biomechanical alignment, poor technique, overuse or an acute injury.
The management of any of the above problems would begin with a thorough assessment where we would ask about your medical history and specific injury history. We would then have a look at how you are moving and feel your muscles and joints. Based on the assessment we will provide you with a diagnosis and discuss the treatment plan. There will be an element of core stability and injury prevention exercises within your treatment plan to prevent a similar problem occurring again.
For ongoing structured, supervised exercise excellent for becoming “Running-fit” you could join our Pilates and Fitness Conditioning classes. These are fun small group classes that incorporate small equipment including the BOSU, gym balls and resistance apparatus to challenge balance, tone and build muscle strength without losing flexibility. The maximum class number is 6 so you can be sure to get individual attention throughout ensuring you are performing exercises for the full benefit.
“Do you have a fracture?”
One of the latest technology advances of modern Physiotherapy is the introduction of LIPUS. This new technology is able to reduce your healing time by up to 50%. Thats 3 weeks instead of 6!
The sound pressure stimulation provided by the LIPUS (Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound) system accelerates the formation and union of fractured bone and promotes rapid recovery.
Research has shown LIPUS significantly reduces healing time compared to placebos.
Used by all premiership football clubs and the MoD this is cutting edge technology which is only offered as a last resort on the NHS.
